After lunch we visited the 1300 year old Small Wild Goose Pagoda, one of the most famous Buddhist pagodas in China, constructed during the Tang Dynasty. It was moderately damaged during the major earthquake in 1556 and still stands today as a compelling symbol of Xian.
On the grounds they have a "wishing" bell. You make a wish and then ring the bell three time to make your wish come true.
Some people write their wishes down on these red ribbons, while others just keep them in their head.
Like all of the parks in China, the grounds of this pagoda are beautifully manicured.
There was a museum on the grounds of the pagoda as well, and Steve and I were in need of a potty stop, so we decided to head to the museum and see if they could help us out. And as we approached the museum, we realized that there were misters running up the stairs!!!! Oh my, real misters!!!
Steve cooling off. Awww, that feels good!
Oh, and the museum had some displays too, although we really didn't spend any time looking at them. We are so pathetic!
Then back out to the pagoda grounds to explore a little further.
Beautiful wood carvings done on sight at the pagoda.
The pagoda was a nice stop after our flight from Beijing, giving us a chance to stretch our legs, get some outdoor time and learn some history of this new city we are in, in a beautiful park-like setting.
