Astoria to Wheeler, OR (Wednesday, September 11th, 2019)

We are now staying at an RV Resort called Paradise Cove, nestled on the Nehalem River near the Oregon Coast.  It's a pretty cool place, with a boat ramp, marina and fishing docks.  Most of the people in this park come for the summer to take park in the great fishing and crabbing that this area has.

We set out this morning to enjoy the Oregon coast from our RV park north to Astoria, OR.  We figured it would be a nice overview, and then we could take our time later in our stay to revisit places where we would want to spend more time.

We couldn't resist stopping at Cannon Beach on our way by before continuing north on highway 101.  This is from the south looking north.

Then we headed all the way north to check out Astoria, OR.  It is a very industrial town, where the Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean.

There is a four mile long bridge (the longest self supporting structure in North America) that crosses the Columbia river from Oregon to Washington.

The Oregon side of the bridge.

The Washington side of the bridge.

As we made our way south from Astoria, the next place that we stopped to take some time was Cannon Beach.  This time we had time to get out and explore.  Instead of stopping on the north side of the beach where the public access parking is, we stopped on the north side in a little park called Les Shirley Park.  It was the perfect stopping place.  It had restrooms, picnic tables, a foot shower, and of course a beach access.

So we enjoyed some lunch, and then headed out to see the beach.

Instead of heading down by haystack rock, where the crowds are, we chose to stay on the north side of the beach which was super quiet and peaceful.  We could still enjoy the views of haystack rock, but also the tranquility of our stretch of beach as we made our way north.

After leaving Cannon Beach, we made several more stops on our way back to our camp.  The Oregon coast is so diverse and beautiful.  We enjoyed every stop and every view!

From the cliffs, looking down on Manzanita Beach.

After looking down on Manzanita beach, we decided to go down and check it out.

Most of the beaches along the Oregon coast are so quiet and peaceful!  And the weather has been great!  We figured that by mid September it would be getting really rainy, but so far, so good!
