It's time to head back to Colorado for awhile, and we're so excited we can hardly stand it. For many years Lake Havasu City was our vacation place, and we were always sad to leave it and head back to Colorado, but now that we are able to spend so much time there, it's actually exciting to go back to Colorado.
The monsoons have arrived in Arizona, and with them they bring lots of humidity and a much greater chance of rain. Other than our mountain ride, we have really not seen any rain yet, but as we headed out at 10:30 this morning, it certainly looked like rain could be in our forecast.
The closer we got to Kingman, AZ, the more likely the rain looked.
And very quickly we were in a downpour. Rain is always kind of fun in the desert unless you have to drive in it. What a bummer that we encountered our first real rain storm on the road. We are taking our motor home back to live in while we are there, and we are pulling our trailer so that we can use it to move our daughter. So this kind of weather isn't making us too happy.....but it wasn't a big deal.
Before long, we were even encountering fog. Uggh! Even though the speed limit sign said 75, with a motor home, trailer and fog, we were going much slower than that!
We drove in rain storms for about 3 1/2 hours from Kingman, Arizona to Flagstaff, Arizona. They would come and go, but mostly...they would come. But finally in Flagstaff the weather cleared a bit and we could speed up and enjoy the ride a little more. The weather was cool, and now we could enjoy the storms from afar.
As we approached the New Mexico border, the sun started peeking out, and highlighting some of the beautiful Arizona landscape.
And we even got a glimpse of a rainbow.
We drove through most of New Mexico before stopping for the night at a rest stop near Las Vegas, NM at mile marker 375. There was plenty of parking, which was great, but it was pretty close to the highway, so it was a bit loud.
We love traveling in the motor home because we have everything we need right at our finger tips, including our bed. It is so much cooler here than in Lake Havasu City that we actually had to use a blanket for the first time in months.
There are two other places on I-25 that are good for overnight stops as well. One is the Russell's truck stop at mile marker 419 and the last one is a rest area at mile marker 434. Russell's has a nice big lot and is a ways off the road, so it is a nice option. The rest area at mile marker 434 is small and is right on the highway, so a bit loud for sleeping.
We got up on Wednesday morning and as we pulled out of the rest area, it was 61 degrees F. Very chilly compared to what we are used to.
It wasn't long before we hit the Colorado border with all of its beautiful green! We have to admit, we really miss this beautiful green!
To get back home, we have to drive through most of Colorado, and along the way there are always some fun sights. We passed a truck, pulling a shipping container that had been converted into a tiny house. Pretty cool! It's tiny, but also very fun! I'd love to see the inside once it's all done.
As we pulled into Denver, we were super excited! We drove past the broncos stadium and made our way to Steve's brother's house where we will set up camp for awhile.
We made ourselves at home and then headed out for the evening to catch up with old friends. We went to a little local restaurant called Jacks with Steve's brother and his wife. We were joined by our friends Dave and Nancy. After enjoying a nice dinner, we all went to one of their favorite hangouts, a little brewery call "Somewhere Else" for a beer and some pinball. We were joined by our friends Bob and Anne and their son, and we had such a great time catching up.
