Sand Point and Bayview, Idaho (Sunday, August 19th, 2019)
The town of Sand Point is about 40 minutes north of Coeur d' Alene. It is on lake Pend Oreille, which is a very large, very deep lake in northern Idaho.
The town of Sand Point is very cute and inviting with lots of shopping and dining options, in fact, I've heard that a lot of people come to Sand Point just for the shopping.
But in addition to the shopping, there is a beautiful city beach and park on Lake Pend Oreille.
There are marinas for the smaller boats over by town.
There appears to be a public boat ramp in the park
and beautiful beaches! The water was a lot warmer than I expected it to be.
We drove up past town into the more residential area of Sand Point. The views were spectacular, and the fall colors were already starting to show.
After leaving Sand Point, we drove south to the town of Bay View. It is a very tiny town, with a very big sailboat marina.
Wild huckleberries grow throughout this region.
Off shore, there is an area of the lake that is about 1,000 feet deep. The U.S. Navy does submarine testing here.
There is a lot of logging in this area. The trees appear to grow quite fast. These logs are all waiting to be processed.
Lake Pend Oreille is a really beautiful lake, but Sand Point is more of a vacation town than a town you would want to live in.
