Kilkenny, Ireland (Sunday, July 28th, 2018)

As we made our final leg of the journey from Waterford back to Dublin, Ireland, we stopped in the medieval town of Kilkenny, Ireland.

And of course, our first stop in Kilkenny, Ireland was the Kilkenny Castle because we have not seen enough bloody castles on this trip yet!  We walked through the castle grounds, but had sense enough to not go inside.  There were other things we wanted to see in town instead.

The park attached to the castle seemed to go on for miles.

This was the stairway to nowhere.  It appeared to end at the bottom of the mote.

From the castle we began strolling through the streets of this interesting little medieval town.

This entryway is called the butter slip.  It is where the butter merchants would sell their butter, keeping it cool in the shaded stone alleyway.

Inside the butter slip.

One of the newer attractions in town.

There is a famous little pub in called Hole in the Wall.  It is a music venue in the heart of Kilkenny, housed in  the oldest surviving townhouse in Ireland, the 1582 Archer Inner House, at 17 high street.  It has been fully restored in the last ten years and is open to visitors for the first time in  hundreds of years.  From what we understand, it literally seats about six people, and since there were six of us, we thought it might be fun.  We found it, but it was closed.

We found ourselves a little lunch before hopping back on the bus.  I can't remember what we had, so I have to assume it was a scone and Irish coffee. 😃

When we returned to the bus, we once again had a treat waiting for everyone who returned on time.  This time it was Baileys Irish Cream.

So we started the Irish Cream Brigade to get it all handed out before the late comers showed up.

It was a super fun day exploring Kilkenny, and once again, Steve's parents made us so proud!  They have gotten so strong while we have been on this trip, and are capable of walking much farther that we ever imagined!
