Once again, the sights along the way were beautiful, and the weather was perfect!
We go through a lot of ranch land on all of our rides.
Today's ride was quite a climb. We went from about 2000 feet in Wickenburg to over 7000 feet at Crown King.
We drove through Prescott National Forest with it's beautiful pine trees. This part of the ride made me feel like I was back in Colorado.
Well maybe not this part.
Entering Crown King.
While we were waiting for our lunch, I headed outside to look around the town.
There are two restaurants here, the Crown King Saloon, which we're eating at, and the Prospector Smokehouse, which appeared to be closed today.
A huge fire department!
Then back to the saloon to enjoy some lunch.
Then it was time to hit the road again.
About half way back, we decided to take a "short cut" that turned into quite an adventure.
John and Don grew up in this area of Arizona and we feel like they know these trails like the back of their hand, so when they asked if we wanted to take this little spur trail, no one hesitated. The trail started out fine, but as we progressed, we realized that it wasn't in the best shape. John and Don both laughed and said that it appeared no one had used the trail in awhile.
It didn't take long for us to start feeling like we were trapped in the Bermuda Trianlge.
Anyone that has heard of the Bermuda Triangle knows that through the years there have been reports of lots of weird things happening to ships and planes in that area. Sometimes they disappear without a trace, sometimes their instrument panels go haywire, etc.
We had the same thing happen to us as we were heading though this area. John's car kept dying, Don's power steering and speedometer quit working, our microphones quit working, Don's headset quit working. It was so strange. We just kept making our we through this area, fighting all of the strange things that were happening.
When we finally hit Constellation Road, the main road leading back to Wickenburg, everything all of a sudden started working again.
We think everything just got hot, tired and dusty, but then again, maybe we really were in a Bermuda Triangle of our own!!!
Some of the saguaros we drove through were huge, and they have so much character!
Our drive today was 99 miles round trip and was quite exhilarating!
When we got back to the Best Western, we showered and headed over to the Mexican Restaurant once again, and tonight it was open!
Steve and I had the chili rellano casserole, and it was amazing!
We all had some well deserved margaritas and some amazing food before calling it a night. What a fun and nerve wracking day! So glad we had these great people to share it with!
