Havasu to Wickenburg (Monday, April 2nd, 2018)

Today, the adventurous eight (John, Tracy, Don, Roxanne, Sam, Sharyn, Steve and I) all headed out on a three day cross-country trip from Havasu to Wayside (by Lake Alamo) to Wickenburg (Day1).  Then Wickenburg to the Crown King area (Day2).  Then from Wickenburg to Wayside and then back to Havasu (Day 3).  We will be doing this all by RZRs!

Some of us have been on some of the trails before, and some of us haven't been on any of them before (Steve and I), so we know it will be an adventure to remember.  No matter what happens, we will enjoy a great ride with great views and great people, so what can be better than that!

Our first glimpse of Alamo Lake, which is about 4 1/2 miles from Wayside, so we are getting close to our lunch stop.

You see so many strange things out in the desert.  This settlement had houses, barns, trucks, water tanks, everything you would need to live, and yet it looks like whoever lived here left in a hurry.

A closer view of Alamo Lake.

Alamo Lake runs into the Bill Williams River, which eventually runs into Lake Havasu near Parker.  There are dry silt beds all around the lake and the river that are incredibly dusty to drive through.

It's like driving through flour.

We came upon this old school bus, half buried in silt.  This was the bus that John, Roxanne and Don took to school back in the day...at least that is what we were told!

We finally made it out of the silt beds and back on the trail to Wayside.  As you're looking at all of this silt, just remember that all of our luggage for the next three days is hanging out in the back seat, just taking it all in.

We stopped in Wayside for lunch and gas before continuing on our way to Wickenberg.

The outdoor movie theater for the residents of Wayside.

The entrance to the restaurant.

The floor in the ladies room is made of pennies.

Burgers and Sandwiches for lunch.  Good food for such an out of the way little place.

Then back on the road to Wickenberg.

Shortly after leaving Wayside, we drove through a beautiful Joshua Tree Forest.

One of the trickiest parts of today's ride was crossing highways.

Regrouping once we were across.

After leaving Wayside, we crossed a lot of cattleland, and had to go through a lot of gates.  We didn't count how many, but I wish we had.

Today's ride was 135.8 miles through beautiful country in perfect weather.

We made it to Wickenberg around dinner time and got checked in at the Best Western.  Our rooms were all together with a nice grassy courtyard out our back doors.  We had nice parking spots right outside our rooms for the RZRs.

Sharyn and I were really hoping for a hot tub after a long day's ride, but they only had a swimming pool, so we happily settled for that.  Sam and Sharyn and Steve and I hung out at the pool for awhile before heading back to the rooms to get ready for dinner.

Once we were all cleaned up, we enjoyed some time in the courtyard before heading to dinner.

We were going to go to a Mexican restaurant that Roxanne recommended, but when we got there it was closed.  We were bummed!  But we went across the street to the Restaurant 7.

Steve and I ordered the soup and salad bar, and we really enjoyed it, but everyone else said their meals weren't that great.  We were so hungry that I'm surprised they even noticed.  As we left the restaurant, john posed with the mannequins out front.  We're pretty sure that the mannequin was just trying to tickle his tummy.

It was a great ride today with no real issues at all.  We're all glad to be in Wickenburg and are ready to see what else is in store for us.
