Roadrunner, Dust Devil and Pool Time (Wednesday, May 24th, 2017)

I had some work to catch up on this morning, so we were home bodies until I could get it done, but once it was complete, it was play time!

We headed to the golf course to play 18 holes of golf.  It was hot, around 106 F, so we just took our time and enjoyed the game.  I wear white cooling sleeves that cover my arms, and Steve and I both wear cooling towels to make the heat more bearable.  But we're finding that it's not as hot as we expected it to be.

We've spent a lot of time here in the summer, but we've always been on the lake where we could just sit in the water to stay cool, but we were a little bit worried about golfing in it.  So far we have been pleasantly surprised.

We met up with this guy while we were golfing today.  He wasn't even slightly scared of us, mostly just curious.  Most roadrunners won't have anything to do with people, so this was kind of fun. I stood and watched him for about 10 minutes and he never ran off.

A few holes later, we were on the putting green.  I looked over and there was a big dust devil picking up the dirt and carrying it in a funnel.  It moved quickly, and soon it was on the fairway.  As it went through, the palm trees would start rustling in the tornado like wind.  Then it moved over a pond, and we could see the water in the pond spinning with the wind.  It eventually made it on by, carrying dust and leaves with it.  We see dust devils a lot in the desert, but I've never seen one up close and personal like that. I wish I had my camera while it was going on, but unfortunately I missed it.  You'll just have to take my word for it.  It was pretty cool.

When we finished our 18 holes of golf, we headed back to the house and enjoyed some craft time during the heat of the day.  I totally understand the concept of siestas in hot countries.  You just need a break from the heat.

Then off to our friends pool for a nice swim.  They weren't home at the time, but have given us permission to use their pool when they aren't there.  So we made ourselves at home and enjoyed a very pleasant evening at the pool.  It was a perfect 85 degrees F.

When it started cooling off, we got out of the pool and enjoyed some guacamole that we brought with us.  Then waited for the sun to go down before making our way back home.  There were enough clouds in the sky to make us think that there could be a pretty spectacular sunset.  So it was worth waiting for.

While we were waiting for the sunset, a refueling duo flew by.  We see them quite often in Lake Havasu.  One plane is the fuel plane, and the other plane hooks up to it in mid air to refuel.  It is the coolest thing!

And when the time came, we weren't disappointed.  Arizona has some of the most spectacular sunsets!

This one was gorgeous from all directions and stretched for miles behind us.

It just amazes me that even on a work day we can have so much fun.  We're not doing anything special, just living life.  Life is good!

Thank you, Tony and Joyce for the use of your beautiful pool!  It was a fabulous night!

May Snow Brings Grumpy Coloradoans (Thursday, May 18th, 2017)

It was a little breezy here in Havasu while our daughter was visiting, but in Colorado they are experiencing freezing temperatures and SNOW.  Many of the Denver area schools hold their graduation ceremonies outside at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Unfortunately for the graduates, those ceremonies have been postponed until a later date.  They received a foot of snow at Red Rocks.  Yikes!!!

Other parts of the city didn't get that much snow, but they still got some.   Crazy!

It's too late in the year for this nonsense!

Our daughter will be attending a graduation and party when she returns home, and unfortunately for her, she only brought a sun dress and sandals, thinking that the weather would be nice when she got back.  But you can never predict Colorado weather!

Girl Time Comes to an End (Monday, May 15th - Wednesday, May 18th)

It didn't take us long to leave the driving range behind and start playing on the course.  There are two 18 hole courses at the London Bridge golf club, and luckily we had a chance to get her out playing on both of them.

The rest of our week kind of became a blur as we just kept moving and enjoying all that Lake Havasu has to offer.  RZR riding, golfing and lots of great food!

Oriental  chicken salads from Mudsharks Brewery.  Another of our favorites!

And the girl who couldn't get enough of driving the RZR.

More In-N-Out!

Getting competitive on the driving range.

I love this picture!  Father and daughter enjoying the day in the desert!

One of the highlights of playing golf is the wildlife that you see around the course.  Roadrunners are abundant.

There are also several duck families.  This little guy was trying to hide under his mom for shade.

We were able to get our daughter out golfing on four different days while she was here, and she improved SO much! She's ready to tackle golf with her boyfriend.  We're so excited for her!

We bought a huge bag of mango (cheap!!!) and froze them in ice cube trays for smoothies, but the girl just couldn't wait for her smoothie.  We caught her in the act, eating the frozen mangos right out of the tray.

And of course, no trip to Havasu is complete without a burro day. We headed over to California to see the "wild" burros, and of course, they didn't disappoint us.

They would really love to be adopted by a nice family.

There were lots of babies this time of year.  So much fun to see them!

We ended our last evening overlooking the London Bridge with the lights reflecting beautifully on Bridge Water Channel.

Our hearts were breaking today as we dropped our youngest daughter back off at the airport to send her back to Colorado.  She has so much on her plate for the summer, and we are so excited for her. Can't wait until we see her again!

Mother's Day (Sunday, May 14th, 2017)

Sunday was Mother's Day, and I felt so lucky to have one of my girls here with me!  Our first stop was a RZR ride to McDonalds to pick up some coffees.

Then down to the channel to enjoy them.  I can't think of a prettier place to drink coffee.

Then we enjoyed 18 holes of golf.  I think of a better Mother's Day outing!

A trip to our favorite produce store is always important when our youngest is in town.  She appreciates my love of veggies.  Leave it to her to find the best deal in the store.

Can you believe it?  All of those bananas for less than $2.00.  Since we couldn't fit that many bananas in the freezer for smoothies, we had to leave them behind, but it was quite disappointing.

What a great day!  Yummy crab legs with grilled corn on the cob for dinner!

With two of my favorite people!  In my favorite restaurant...our back porch.

And home made mango smoothies for dessert.  I am one lucky mom!

Of course, I would love to have all of my kids with me on Mother's Day, but I'll definitely take what I can get!  Having our youngest daughter here with me made my day so special!  I wouldn't have changed a thing!

Girl Time (Saturday, May 13th, 2017)

It's girl time!  Our daughter has arrived, and we're ready to have some fun with her!

It  been an interesting May, in that the weather just isn't as warm as usual. Normally, we would be hanging out at the lake trying to stay cool, but this year the temperatures are cool, with highs only in the mid 80's.  So the lake water is still chilly, and not as tempting as it might be on a hot day.

We always let our kids choose what they want to do when they are in town. So our first day of her trip was in the RZR.

We headed out onto the island, so she could enjoy the beach without having to fully commit to the chilly water.  Its still beautiful that way, but we're not freezing hanging out in it.

The RZR is nice for driving around the island because you can ride all of the hills and get down to the beaches easily.  Steve loves his little toy.

Pretty soon is was our daughters turn to drive.  She loved it!

She was proud of herself for driving us all over the island.

We walked out on the docks at Sight Six, and she just couldn't help herself, she had to do a hand stand.

And another.

Then back in the RZR for more exploring.

Steve dropped us off in the park so we could walk down the Bridge Water Channel and then meet him on the other end.  We love to take the girls to their favorite places whenever they are in town, and this is one of them.

We met Steve at The Heat, which is a hotel and bar that overlooks the channel.  It is a really pretty spot.

And then it was time for lunch, and of course, our daughter's request was In-N-Out.  She is our gluten free girl, so she has to get her burger "animal style", which means wrapped in lettuce instead of on a bun. But that doesn't bother her a bit.

When we finished lunch, we still had a whole afternoon ahead of us.  So once again, we asked our daughter what she would like to do.  This time she chose golf.

She has boated down here her whole life, so boating doesn't seem to be a big priority to her.  She has never really played much golf, so she said that she wanted to learn.  Her boyfriend loves to golf, and he's pretty good at it, so although she tries to play with him, she has a hard time keeping up. So we decided playing a little golfing was a great idea.

We started in the back yard, hitting wiffle balls on a turf mat.  Once she seemed to have the hang of it, we took her to the driving range for a little more practice.

After a hard day of hitting range balls, we had grilled chicken and ceasar salads for dinner.  A family favorite!

Her trip is off to a great start, and so far no sunburn!  That's a successful first day!
