When we left the condo this morning, the weather was damp and drizzly, so we grabbed our rain coats, our under coats and our umbrellas. But wet or not, we really wanted to see the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, and it is something that our kids have never seen either, so win-win.
Driving by the stadium.
Downtown Tacoma is hiding in the clouds.
As we made our way north toward Skagit Valley, it continued to rain, but we were still super excited about the festival.
It was about a two hour drive, and a beautiful one at that. When we got to Skagit Valley, there were signs for the tulip route, so we followed them, and it took us to a farm called Roozen Gaarde.
Our first glimpse of the tulip fields in the distance. Wow, look at those colors.
The tulips at the entrance to the garden were very pretty and gave us an idea of what we were going to see inside.
The back of the property is the growing fields. It wasn't clear of this was for cutting flowers or bulb propagation, or maybe a combination of the two. So we went to the fields first, and saved the gardens for last.
OK, so it is a little bit muddy, and I have come sooo close to taking a digger multiple times, but I really don't want to wear mud for the whole day, so I am trying really hard to stay upright.
Aren't these guys adorable? They live at Roozen Gaarde.
Now on to the gardens.
Double tulips look a lot like peonies.
An ice cream tulip. Isn't this cool?
Our time in the Roozen Gaarde flew by, and before we knew it, three hours had passed. So we decided it was time for some lunch.
