We have so many siesta time projects that they are going to be hard to keep up with, so we'll have to just take them one day at a time. Today my big project was painting a table for our "outdoor kitchen".
The table is actually an old science lab table from a school in Wheatridge, Colorado. Many years ago when they were remodeling the school, they were getting rid of their old lab tables and Steve's dad just happened to take a few of them. We have been holding onto this one for many years, and just figured out the perfect use for it. The best part about this table is that it comes complete with the "etchings" that some of the students carved into it's slate top.
Since the summer's get hot here in Lake Havasu City, we love cooking outside, but we needed some additional outdoor counter space to make it work better. So we're painting this old table to match our house, so it will look more at home on our back porch.
Unfortunately, this wasn't a siesta time project that could be done in the comfort of our air conditioned house. Here's our original table, with just a little bit of sanding.
Then two coats of primer.
And finally the paint. Three coats were required to fully cover the primer.
Now it looks beautiful, and holds our outdoor oven and burners. It ended up being the perfect addition to our back porch, and hopefully the paint will help it hold up in the sun and heat.
I'm so glad to have my new table, but hopefully the rest of our siesta time projects will be indoors, at least for the next few months...it is getting hot out there!!!!
