It takes about 6 1/2 hours to get there from Lake Havasu City, so we try and keep the drive moving along. But this time, as we were heading down highway 95 south of Parker, we found ourselves in the middle of a bike race/event. And it wasn't helping our time at all.
We stopped in Ajo again to get our Mexican car insurance before we crossed the border. We asked them about just getting insurance for the day we were driving in and the day we were driving out, instead of the whole time we were there, but if it's not continuous, the they have to write it as two separate insurance policies, and you have to pay the processing fee for each policy. So that would have cost more than just insuring it the whole time. It was a great idea to check into it, but it wouldn't work unless you were staying there for a longer time.
Heading across the border into Mexico is always easy. A couple of questions and that's it.
Once we were across the border, we missed our turn and had to take a side street to get back on track. We thought these hot water heaters mounted on the outside of the building were interesting. I bet in the summer they don't even have to turn them on. It's kind of ingenious!
The highway from Sonoyta to Puerto Penasco is a nice highway with emergency call signs every few miles.
It is also a no hassle zone for Americans. What ever that means.
When we got into Puerto Penasco, they were doing road construction on the main street in, so we had to take a detour. Most of the roads through town are dirt.
We finally made it to the RV park, and I helped Tony unhook his jeep while Steve and Joyce went into the office to get our spots.
Our beautiful camp sights. So excited to listen to the waves at night, lulling me to sleep.
There is a crew in the RV Park that provides all types of maintenance on the RV's while they are there. They will do interior and exterior cleaning, exterior painting, and all types of maintenance. This motor-home was getting a new paint job. They do really good work!
Then back to our favorite little place for lunch, El Marisco Puerto Penasco for some tacos, shrimp scampi and whole fried fish.
And we were served by our favorite waiter Alex.
We enjoy watching the pelicans on the rocks below while we eat. It is once of their outs, so they are always plentiful!
Then back to the RV Park for some down time.
As sun down approaches, the tourist boats head out. This picture is kind of fun because it shows both the sunset cruise ship and the pirate ship together.
Even though it takes about 6 1/2 hours to get here, if we leave early, we still have plenty of time for a relaxing afternoon in this beautiful sea-side town. Stay tuned for tomorrow's adventures in this beautiful fishing village on the Sea of Cortez.
