Valley of 100 Mines (Sunday, February 24th, 2019)

Valley of 100 Mines

Our final ride from our camp on Shea Road was to an area called the Valley of 100 Mines.  It is a little further out than Little Utah, and once again took us through some really pretty and unique country.

We took a break on top of a hill so we could take in the views.

We're not there yet, but found some interesting things to look at on the way.

Steve found a geo-cache in what we think is called Vampire Mine.

The last people here said in the log book that they left some weed in the cache, so we had to see if they were telling the truth.

One sniff and Robert said yes.

We decided to leave it behind for the next lucky travelers.  Hope they enjoy it.

The Arizona desert is full of unexpected surprises.  We never get tired of trying to find them.  Another old mine to explore on our way!

This mine was large enough to have tracks, and they are still intact.

This looks more like a tropical rain forest than the desert!  All of the rain this year is making it so pretty!

Lunch time before we go into the Valley of the Mines.  And the suspense grows!

As we entered the valley, we could see mine entrances and tailings in all directions.

The valley is really rugged, with colors that we've never seen in this area before.  Steve says that some sort of really big bang had to happen to create such a diverse valley as this one.

This valley is filled with beautiful rocks of all colors!  But a camera doesn't do them justice.

It was nice to be here right after all of the rains.  This place is beautiful!

And so many mines to explore!

Robert was definitely the brave one.  He can climb anything, even on the edge of a cliff.  I had to pass on this one.

And amidst all of the craziness of this canyon was this little beauty.

I have never seen a canyon quite like this one, with so many mines, natural caves, pools and cliffs.  It was a super fun day exploring with friends.  I'd get lost in the desert with these friends any day!
