We are on our way to Puerto Penasco with a group of friends. One of the things we love about retirement is that we can arrive in amazing places as the crowds are leaving, and can enjoy the beauty and tranquility as it was meant to be.
As we made our way south, we passed a huge line of cars at one of the border patrol check points. We were heading south to Mexico, they were heading north back to wherever home is for them. The line went for about two miles, with cars backed up for what looked could be hours.
Going through Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument.
We passed into Mexico with a quick search of our motor home by the Mexican authorities (this was something new this year), but nothing major at all. They didn’t even check our registration this time. And as we looked to our left, again, there was a huge line of cars as far as the eye could see, waiting to get back across the border on the US side. We spent our life going with traffic for so many years, and now it's so nice to be able to go against it.
We will spend the next 6 days in Puerto Penasco, enjoying the beach, the people, the food and a whole lot of relaxation. When we arrived, they had four beach front spots waiting for us, so we pulled in an started setting up camp. Tony and Joyce had a fitting on their water pump come loose during the trip down, and had a small flooding issue, but Steve and Tony took care of it in no time and we were all back to normal.
Our home away from home for this week.
Once we were settled in, we all enjoyed camp and the beach for the afternoon, and as we sat out on our front “porch”, we noticed a school of dolphins swimming just off the beach. We watched them for several hours without ever getting tired of them.
Then with no desire to cook at all, six of us made our way down to the Puesta Del Sol Restaurant for some dinner. Steve had the Seven Seas Soup, which we enjoy every time we are here, and I tried something new, shrimp fajitas, which were very good as well. Jerry and Mary stayed behind and enjoy some home grilled steaks for their father’s day.
On our way back from the restaurant, we came across a huge cockroach and the biggest black widow we have ever seen. Just a reminder to always wear shoes!!!
Then we enjoyed a little time back at camp before calling it a night.
