Memorial Day Mayhem (Saturday, May 28th, 2016)

We're back down in Lake Havasu for another short adventure!  As the snow birds leave Lake Havasu City for the season, a new kind of bird lands in the city.  They come in flocks and take over the lake on weekends in the summertime.  They bring huge boats and trucks and beer and money.  They truly help to support the economy of this little town during the summer months, but bring a subculture that you don't see during other times.

Each year it changes a little bit.  For many years the hot spot during the weekends was at the sandbar (up the river) or Copper Canyon (down the lake), but for now, it seems to be the channel.

And a new thing this year is awnings.  Everyone brings an awning and sets it up on the shore to "claim" their piece of the channel.

Since this holiday weekend is so busy, we chose not to take the boat out in all of this, so we just walked down for the day to do a little people watching.  It was strange, because there were so many awnings that you really couldn't even get down to the water to cool off.

So we met up with friends and found a quiet little spot to enjoy a beer in the shade of the palms.

When the summer birds fly back home for the week, we will once again have our quiet piece of paradise to enjoy!
