Taking advice from the ranger at the Chiricahua National Monument visitors center, we made our way back out of the park, and almost immediately took a left turn down Pinery Canyon Road. It wove through State Trust Land and private land for a few minutes, then lead us into Coronado National Forest again. We looked for just a few minutes before finding the perfect campsite for the night. There is a gate on the road that they close in the winter, just beyond that gate we took a right turn and within a quarter of a mile we had found the perfect spot for us.
Our view to the south.
Our view to the north.
And not another soul around…anywhere. So we set up camp and enjoyed a quiet evening.
It doesn’t get any better than this!
We got up the next morning and began to make breakfast, when we noticed a “fog” in the air, and a terrible film on the hood of our truck.
It didn’t take us long to realize that it is pollen season in the mountains, and we needed to get packed up and get out of here! Steve and I both have terrible allergies during certain times of the year, so we’ll have to visit again when pollen season is over.
