Camping in Coronado National Forest, Peña Blanca Lake, Nogales, AZ

Dispersed camping at its finest!  Directions to get to this campground are in the previous post, and if you’re in the area, we highly recommend it!  It was completely protected from the wind (which we didn’t even know about until the next morning), and as you can see, the views were incredible!  And the best part…we had it all to ourselves!

As we drove down Ruby Road, the views were really pretty.  It is very different than the desert we live in near Phoenix.

Before finding a place to camp, we took time to visit Peña Blanca Lake.  There were a few people fishing, but other than that, we had the lake to ourselves.  We love exploring during the week, it is so peaceful!

It was a really nice lake with a boat ramp and lots of fishing docks.  On the way to the lake, there were picnic areas for day use only, and what looked like a group camp ground that could be reserved.  The lake was a fee area, if I remember correctly, it was $15/ day.

We had a visitor at our first campground of the trip.  We always love visitors.

And here is our campground itself.

As the sun began to set, only Castle Rock remained illuminated.  It was beautiful!

And then a gorgeous sunset, all for us.

The next morning, we walked further up the dirt road that we were camping on, and there were more campsites that would be perfect for summer.  They were nestled in the trees, and there were even two very clean porta-potties back in there 👍.  And of course, even more beautiful sights to see.
