Boating at Theodore Roosevelt Lake, Tonto Basin, AZ

Our friends Frank and Kara and her cousin and husband rented an Airbnb for the week at Roosevelt Reservoir, in Tonto Basin, AZ.  They invited us to come along, and we couldn’t can pass up a fun opportunity like that with everyone!

The house was beautiful, with plenty of room and lots of fun additions like a pool table, horse shoes, volleyball and corn hole.  We had some championship games of pool and corn hole that might just go down in the record books. Haha! The house sat on top of a hill, and backed up to Tonto National Forest, so no noisy neighbors for us, and the views were spectacular! 😃  We all just kept commenting on the perfect placement of the house.  There was always an afternoon breeze out of the west, but the patio was sheltered perfectly by the house, and was in the shade all afternoon!  Score!

We spent our week boating, fishing, grilling and talking.  What a relaxing time!

Captain Frank.

There was lots of wildlife on the lake, like this gray heron, hawks, pelicans and loons.  So whether you were fishing, or were just along for the ride, it was a fun time!

This plane was practicing for fire season.  It would fly above the lake, then touch-down on the water, picking up water in its belly.  Then it would take off again and dump the water out again further down the lake.  They practiced for multiple days.  I hope this doesn’t mean they're expecting a bad fire season, but probably are!

Frank and the crew did a lot of fishing, but not much catching.  It was a tournament fishing week at the lake, so I think the fish were laying low.

Kara and I, holding on to our hats!  Their dogs Zach and Charlie loved the boat as long as it was sitting still, but they both ran for cover as soon as the engine started.

Back at the house, air frying a turkey.  They had brined it for several days, and it turned out amazing!  Oh, and did you notice that view from the house?

On Thursday night, Frank and Kara’s youngest daughter joined us for a couple of days.  It was so nice to get to spend some time with her in a nice relaxed environment.

The Roosevelt marina is pretty big, with slips for rent on a first come, first served basis.  It also has a restaurant but we have never eaten there so I can’t give you an opinion.

A huge thank you to Frank and Kara for taking us along on their Roosevelt boating adventure!!!  It was relaxing, picturesque and oh so much fun!  Your boat is amazing, as is your incredible hospitality!
