No Orcas For Us (Monday, July 20th, 2020)

There are orcas in the south Puget Sound!  And we would love nothing more than to see them.  So we headed out early this morning to Kopachuck State Park, near Gig Harbor, on the Kitsap Peninsula.  The orcas have been seen in this area today.

It's a bit of a hike down to the beach, and when we got there the tide was out, so we set up our chairs for orca watching.

The Olympic Mountains are out today. So pretty in the background.

There are so many oysters and a few sand dollars here when the tide is out.

When the tide is out, it's really out.

After enjoying a few hours on the beach at Kopachuck, we got a call from our daughter that they'd like to come join us in our whale watching efforts.  So we took a little break from the beach to go look for some lunch for all of us.

We made a quick stop in Gig Harbor, just to enjoy the sights.

Then picked up some Thai food and headed back to the beach where we would meet up with the kids.  By the time we got back, the tide had really come in, and the beach was shrinking quickly.

We ended up moving up to the top of the beach before pulling out lunch since thetide was coming in so fast.

While we were eating lunch, we enjoyed the company of some harbor seals, but no orcas.

Our daughter and I kept telling the guys to eat quickly because the time was coming in.  We were sitting right in from of the logs, and they said there was no way if would reach the logs.  Good thing we ate quickly.

Our final spot was up in the trees where we knew the water wouldn't come.

By the time we left, the beach was completely gone, and so was our drinking water.  And we never did get to see the illusive orcas.
