La Cruz, Mexico (Thursday, October 25th, 2018)

When we were in Puerto Vallarta in July, we visited the town of La Cruz, exploring the north end of town, so today we went back to do some more exploring on the south end of town.

I have to be honest, one of the main reasons we went back to La Cruz was to have lunch at Cocina Economica.  It is just past the round-about on the street going down to the Marina.

So we went back, hoping to enjoy her home-made chili rellanos again, and yay!!!  She had them on the menu again! This delicious plate of food is $2.50, and it comes with home-made tortillas, her drink of the day (which today was tamarinde juice), and a little dish of ice cream for dessert.

Check out these corn tortillas!  They are nothing like the corn tortillas in the U.S.  They are so moist and rollable, without breaking!  And they don't have that strong corn taste.  They are just plain delicious!

Our tamarind drink.

After lunch we figured out our route to the south side of town.  It took us through some pot holey streets.

Eventually we came to the south side of the marina, where we planned to head down the beach.  But of course, it's never quite that easy.

Unfortunately, there were a whole bunch of rocks between us and the beach. So off I went in my dress and flip flops, over the rocks and down to the beach.

We enjoyed our walk on the beach, but it really isn't an interesting area.  There are a lot of up scale homes and condos, but that was about it.

So we got to the end, turned around and headed back up to the highway to catch our bus home.  Sometimes when we take these little excursions our bus ride is the most exciting part of our day, and other than lunch, that was the case today, and that's OK.

When we caught the bus in La Cruz to come back, it was just this little van instead of a bus.  Apparently these are what they typically use in Nayarit (the state where La Cruz is located). They can deliver people to Puerto Vallarta, but they can't pick up any new passengers until they are back in Nayarit.  Interesting!

As we walked home from our bus ride, we noticed that the town is definitely getting cleaned up from hurricane Willa.  There are stacks of debris all over town just waiting to be picked up.

Today was not one of our most exciting days of exploration, but it was nice to check this off our list.  We now know what is on the south side of La Cruz, and it's not much.  Steve and I both talked about what it would be like to stay in those homes along the shore, and we just can't imagine it.  What would you do?  Where would you go?  A car or bus would be required every time you wanted to venture out, and that's just not what we are looking for.  We really enjoy the opportunity to explore on foot whenever possible.
