Missing Them Already (Monday, January 28th, 2019)

When we left Las Vegas, Steve and our daughter drove back to Washington, and I returned home.  After having our daughter here for the whole month of January, life with her became so normal, and fun, and special.  Now the house is feeling a bit empty.  I am missing our daughter for sure, but I am also missing our sweet grand kitties.

Albert very quickly learned that humming bird feeders attract humming birds, and humming birds are really fun, especially ones that taunt you for hours on end.

and so, he lived life under the humming bird feeder, every chance he got.

and then he taught his little sister about the fun of humming bird feeders, but she was not nearly stealth enough for his kind of hunting.  The rocks hurt her feet, and she just didn't see the glory of humming birds.

So she would have to just come in the house and cuddle, and that was OK with me.

Steve and I are definitely going to have to find something fun to do now that our house is empty again.  It's just too quiet and lonely here we will have to get going with our activities again!

Cirque Du Soleil, Las Vegas (Saturday, January 26th, 2019)

It was a sad morning packing our daughter and her kitties, and getting them ready to head home, but their was good news with the bad... we have one more really great day before we actually have to say goodbye.

Our youngest daughter and her boyfriend gave the three of us tickets to Cirque Du Soleil and a night at Treasure Island for Christmas.  So the first leg of the journey to Washington will only take us as far as Las Vegas.

We enjoyed a lunch at our favorite Thai restaurant, Weera Thai on Sahara.  The Kao Soy and Panang curry are the best we have ever eaten.  Then off to our hotel.

We got settled into our room, and got the cats settled in as well.  Treasure Island doesn't allow pets, so our daughter stayed at a nearby Candle Wood Suites where her kitties would be comfy and cozy while we enjoyed our time in the city.

This is Albert hiding in the towel cubby in the bathroom.  He made himself right at home.

We enjoyed the fountains at the Bellagio  and a relaxing walk along the strip to stretch our legs before the show and do some people watching as the sea of humanity wound around us in every direction.

Cirque Du Soleil was being performed at the Mystere theatre inside Treasure Island.

We had front row seats in the second section.  I felt like an "America's Got Talent Judge".

The pre-show entertainment.  He was a hoot!

Some highlights from the show, but not too many because I wouldn't want to spoil it for anyone else.

We didn't know what to expect going into the show, but we could have never imagined the performance we received.  The lighting, music, costumes and performers were all first rate!  It is a show of the most strength and precision I have ever seen.  I'm not convinced that all of what they did is humanly possible.  We found out after the fact that we went to the "kid friendly" version of Cirque Du Soleil, so I'm not sure what the other shows would be like, but this one was amazing!

When the show was over, we all headed to Ellis Island to try our hands at a little video poker while we waited for a table for dinner.  Ellis Island is a micro brewery just off the strip, and is a spot where the locals hang out.  They have great craft beer, and a great meal at old time Las Vegas prices.  The strip is great for taking in the sights, but the off beat places are where we like to gamble and eat.

Steve and I had the fish and chips.

Our daughter had the hangover burger.

Then back to our hotels for a good nights sleep.  Tomorrow will come early, and for Steve and our daughter, the drive will be long.

We are so grateful to our daughter and her boyfriend for introducing us to this amazing Las Vegas night life!  The show and hotel were both great!  What a thoughtful Christmas present!  Next time we hope they can come with us!

Cha Bones Farewell Dinner (Thursday, January 24th, 2019)

We only have one more day with our daughter before she heads back to her normal life.  So we took the opportunity to enjoy a farewell dinner with her at Cha Bones.

We started off with Blue Baby Spinach salads and their special martinis.  Oh so good.  If your a blue cheese lover, they'll let you dress your salad with blue cheese instead of their standard raspberry vinaigrette.  Game Changer!!!

Rib Eye steak for Steve.

Hoisin salmon for me.

and our daughter went light with a sea scallop appetizer.

Fabulous meal, and a fantastic night with our daughter!  Where has the time gone?  We sure are going to miss her!

AZ Bag Lady (Thursday, January 23rd, 2019)

We have had so much fun with our daughter while she has been in town, and during the day while she's working, we have enjoyed doing some projects of our own.  I have become quite the bag lady.

We are always looking for new ways to keep the motor home clean and organized, so I went to work making bags.

The large white bag has a snap flap and contains our outdoor carpet.

The small white bag has a snap flap and holds our folding step stool.

The two large gray bags have a two way zipper and contain folding chairs

And a shovel cover to to keep the dirt contained.

It's been really fun to get projects done that I never seem to have time for.  I need our daughter to come work at our house more often so I can get things done!

Copper Still Distillery, LHC (Sunday, January 20th, 2019)

The Copper Still Distillery is new in town, and we just keep hearing how great their Bloody Mary's are.  So we met our friend Sam and Sharyn for a vodka salad.

Such a cute little place, and GREAT Bloody Mary's.  We'll be back!

Quartzsite, AZ (Saturday, January 19th, 2019)

If you've never visited Quartzsite, AZ during it's peak season, it is a sight to behold!  Campers, trailers and RVs from all over the US and Canada flock to Quartzsite for the winter.  Many of them bring their portable businesses with them, others just show up for the festivities. Some park in the RV parks in town, while others park out in the desert.  Snowbirds are everywhere, turning this small town of just over 3,600 people into a sea of organized chaos.

During January, there is also an RV show in town, bringing in RV's, campers, trailers, and big tents full of vendors that sell everything from nuts and bolts to beads and clothes.  If you want it, they probably have it...somewhere!

The parking lots are a combination of people's portable homes and the businesses they brought with them.  Some of them are here only for the RV show, but many of them are here for the entire winter.

We did a little shopping.

And some eating.  We decided to leave the RV show for lunch because it was just too crowded.  So out in the "permanent" area of the organized chaos, we found Randy's Hamburgers.  Randy's staff makes great burgers and onion rings, and Randy is the wait staff.  He has a covered seating area out behind his "restaurant" that was shady and just perfect for us to rest our feet while we enjoyed our lunch.  Randy also makes curly fries that are a fry basket completely full of curly fries.  They looked amazing, but probably a little more food than any of us needed, so we stuck to the onion rings.  The mushroom swiss burgers were great.  Our daughter really enjoyed her southwest burger, but it got pretty spicy by the end.  In the evening (after 4:00 I think) Randy serves $1 hamburgers with grilled onions.  They looked really good too, but we were glad we had the full on burgers for lunch instead.  They were $6, or $9 with a drink and fries.

Just a few more things you can find at the RV show.

Antler dog chews and chandeliers.

Winter hats.  A little too warm for today, but hey, they were cute so we bought some.

And we finished our day with a date shake.  We always like to try a new discovery.  It was good, but not great, but if you're a date lover, it would be worth your time to try one.  We split ours three ways, and were glad we did.  It was pretty rich!

Just having fun with our girl whenever we can, and that's what weekends are made for!
