There is a New Hummingbird in Our Yard (Sunday, March 11th, 2018)

We have a costa hummingbird that protects our bird feeders from all of the other hummingbirds, but lately, we have a few brave new birds that dare to come in.

This is the costa humming bird that guards our yard.  The costas are known for their beautiful purple hoods.

Lately we have had a few females at our feeders.  This one is a female Costa.

This one appears to be a female black-chinned humming bird.  Her belly is more spotted and she's smaller than the Costa female.

We also have a little male hummingbird that has been visiting our feeder.  Steve's dad and I think he might be a Costa/Black-chinned hybrid.   I took these pictures at night, so it is a bit dark, but you can still see him.

From this angle, he kind of looks like a masked bandit.

It's really hard to get a picture of a humming birds wings, so I decided to include these next two pictures even though they are a little strange.  They show his wings really well.

If anyone knows what this little guys is, I'd love it if you'd leave a comment.  He is about 2 inches long and lives in the Mohave desert.
