Coronado Peak Hike, Montezuma Pass, South Central, AZ

Montezuma Pass is a beautiful drive if you are ever in South Central Arizona.  This year it was especially pretty because it is so green.  They have been getting so much rain in this area.

We stopped at the top of Montezuma Pass and parked in the parking lot, so that we could hike the short Coronado Peak Trail.  It leads from the parking lot, south to the top of Coronado Peak.  The reward is incredible views of both the San Pedro and San Rafael valleys, and as far into Mexico as the eye can see.

A horned lizard.  We don’t see these very often.

When we got to the end of the Coronado Peak Trail, there was a shade structure and some benches as well as signs describing what we were seeing.  It was a great little hike.  The ominous clouds and rain shafts on our way up made us think it was going to be a wet hike back, but somehow it all went away and our hike back was just as good as our hike out.
