Dale and Lynne, Bat Cave and Boat Show (Thursday, April 19th, 2018)

Our friends Dale and Lynne arrived on Wednesday night and got settled in.  We took them out to the Heat for a beer and a great view of the London Bridge at night.

On Thursday Morning we woke up to a wind day, so we decided to take a RZR ride to the Bat Cave.

The lizards were out sunning themselves today, so we got to see quite a few of them.

And some pretty desert flowers.

The bat cave is always interesting, no matter how many times we see it.

There is a hole in the Bat Cave that lets a beam of sunshine in, so Dale decided to climb up and see where it is.

It was a really fun trip to the Bat Cave, and it was fun to see so many lizards out today.

In the afternoon, Dale, Lynne and Steve all headed down to the boat show for Desert Storm Poker Run on Main Street, while I helped my friend Sharyn sell apparel at the side by side meeting.  Here are some pictures from their time at the boat show.

It sounds like they had a great time looking at all of the boats.  I was going to join them at the end of the night, but they had enough of the wind, so we invited Sam and Sharyn to join us at our house for some pizza and beer.  It was a really fun night!

Desert Storm Poker Run (Friday, May 5th, 2017)

Once the parade of boats was finished, we headed up the river to watch part of the poker run.  It is always to see the hype that surrounds the poker run, with the photographers in helicopters, chasing down the boats to get great pictures of them, and just the number of people who show up as spectators.

As we headed up the river, we were in the midst of poker run boats on all sides of us.  It is amazing to see how fast they went by us, no matter how fast we were gong at the time.

Here is a video of one of the boats going by us!  We were going about 60 mph when this boat came by.  Sort of made us look like were were stopped!  Gave me chills!

Our final destination for the day was Pirates Cove, up the river on the California side.  It was packed, but just was we pulled in, another boat pulled out and gave us a great parking spot on the beach.  The sand in Pirates Cove is so soft, even Steve can walk around in it without shoes.  It was a fabulous spot until they came around and kicked us out because we hadn't paid our $10 beach fee. Who knew?  We thought the beaches were free.

As we headed back toward the lake, the wind started coming up, so it felt like a hot blow dryer blowing in me face.  That's what happens when the temperature reaches over 100.  It was such a fun and relaxing day!  We can't thank Tony and Joyce enough for their very generous hospitality!

Desert Storm Parade of Boats (Friday, May 5th, 2017)

We spent the day with Joyce and Tony for the Desert Storm Poker run this year.  They have a beautiful Playcraft pontoon boat with plenty of room and comfort for everyone.  We brought along some snacks and lunch and made a great day of it.

Before the poker run starts, they always do a boat parade through the channel so that all of the "racers" can show off their boats, and all of the spectators can ooh and aah over how beautiful they are. This blog entry is all about the boats, so sit back and enjoy the pictures.

It was so relaxing just sitting in the channel, watching the boats go by and trying to stay cool! Many of these boats have around 3,000 horsepower.  Steve says our truck has 340 for comparison purposes. Many will go well in excess of 120 miles per hour easily with many topping 140 to 150.  Some can likely run close to 200 in perfect conditions!   That's really fast on water!!!

It's going to hit 105 degrees today, so keeping cool will be key!
