Lake Powell, Page AZ

After leaving Horseshoe Bend, our next stop was the Glenn Canyon Dam and Lake Powell.  The Dam is 710 feet tall, which makes it the second highest concrete-arch dam in the United States, second only to the Hoover Dam at 726 feet.  This dam was built between 1957 and 1964.

Shoreline Drive is on the Utah side of Lake Powell, and provides great views of the lake.  Entry to Shoreline Drive is free with a National Parks Pass.  The water level in the lake is low, almost making it look more like a river again.

From this part of Shoreline Drive we could look back at the dam from the lake side.

The views of the lake were beautiful, and it was a good reminder of how precious water is in the desert and how we all need to do our part of conserve it.
