We have a great lake and beach at our RV park, and with temperatures in the 90's, it was a great day to enjoy it!
Our son (in-law) got his exercise in with a nice swim.
And the rest of us just had a nice lazy day.
Seabeck is a cute little town on the Hood Canal (One of only two fjords in the U.S.). It's made up of about three buildings in town, and lost of houses in the woods with beautiful views.
Seabeck is the home of the Guillemot Cove Nature Reserve where there is a nice hike to a Stump House. So we had a little lunch in the car before hiking in.
The hike in was beautiful.
When we got to the bottom, we discovered that the beach access and stump house trail was closed due to flooding. We decided to take the maple loop trail instead.
Not far into the maple loop trail, there was a cut-off that looked like it was going the right direction for the stump house, so we took it.
Oh my, look at this guy.
And we found the stump house. So cute! It is the stump of one of the giant cedar trees that are common in the Pacific Northwest.
The hike back out was just as beautiful as the hike in.
We ended our day with a fun Greek dinner with the kids.
I haven't stepped foot in a salon since early march, and it has been even longer for our daughter because of this silly pandemic, so today we decided that some home haircuts sound amazing! We have our fingers crossed, because neither of us knows what we're doing, but anything will be better than what we have!
Here goes nothing!
She's done with the thinning scissors, now for a cut.
It doesn't look like that much hair, but it feels like she took about 40 pounds off my head! I'm so happy!
She's next. Her's will be easier because she just wants a little off the bottom.
We think we did pretty good for not knowing what we were doing. Success!
There are orcas in the south Puget Sound! And we would love nothing more than to see them. So we headed out early this morning to Kopachuck State Park, near Gig Harbor, on the Kitsap Peninsula. The orcas have been seen in this area today.
It's a bit of a hike down to the beach, and when we got there the tide was out, so we set up our chairs for orca watching.
The Olympic Mountains are out today. So pretty in the background.
There are so many oysters and a few sand dollars here when the tide is out.
When the tide is out, it's really out.
After enjoying a few hours on the beach at Kopachuck, we got a call from our daughter that they'd like to come join us in our whale watching efforts. So we took a little break from the beach to go look for some lunch for all of us.
We made a quick stop in Gig Harbor, just to enjoy the sights.
Then picked up some Thai food and headed back to the beach where we would meet up with the kids. By the time we got back, the tide had really come in, and the beach was shrinking quickly.
We ended up moving up to the top of the beach before pulling out lunch since thetide was coming in so fast.
While we were eating lunch, we enjoyed the company of some harbor seals, but no orcas.
Our daughter and I kept telling the guys to eat quickly because the time was coming in. We were sitting right in from of the logs, and they said there was no way if would reach the logs. Good thing we ate quickly.
Our final spot was up in the trees where we knew the water wouldn't come.
By the time we left, the beach was completely gone, and so was our drinking water. And we never did get to see the illusive orcas.
