Desert Mines, Caves and Butterflies (Sunday, January 13th, 2019)

There is so much to explore in the desert around Lake Havasu City, especially if you have a side-x-side to help you get around.  There are abandoned gold and copper mines scattered all over the hills.

The old mines are really warm in the winter, and really cool in the summer, so they are the perfect place for pack rats to build their home.

Another mine.

This one has an air vent.

This is a pretty awesome thing to find in the desert.  It is a water catchment system.  It catches rain water and fills a large storage basin that feeds into a small concrete "pond" for the desert animals to drink out of.

On our way back to town we drove around the back side of the airport, where we saw to blackhawk helicopters taking off.

Our final stop for the day was the bat cave.  We have never seen the bats, but there is definite evidence that they are here.

The smell inside the cave is terrible.  Our daughter wouldn't even come in.  It was making her gag.

There is a hatch of butterflies right now in the desert, they are everywhere.

Heading back home.

It was such a fun day in the desert with our friends and our daughter.

Lake Havasu City Balloon Festival 5K (Saturday, January 12th, 2019)

This is our final day of the 2019 balloon festival.  Our daughter signed up foris running in the 5K, so we were all down at the Windsor Beach Park bright and early.

The starting line.

The national anthem.

And they're off!

The leader in the men's.

The leader in the women's.

It was so much fun supporting our daughter and the other runners.  She did super good.  She finished in the top 25% of the runners.  After the run, we walked around the character balloons while she cooled down.  They were fun to see.

It was a super fun morning, and the character balloons are so cute!  We can't believe what great weather we had this year!

LHC Balloon Fest Night Glow (Friday, January 11th, 2019)

Night glow at the balloon festival is a treat to see.

When we left the night glow, we walked over to see the Abba cover band play for a few minutes.

So far it has been a great balloon festival this year!  There is so much to do, and the weather has been great!  I hope you have enjoyed the pictures.
